The short answer

The ready-to-wear systems in our current comparison are listed from $199 to $339 before customization, shipping, attachment supplies or salon work. Your annual unit cost can vary by thousands of dollars because an ultra-thin system may need replacing much sooner than a more durable base.

The replacement cycle changes everything

A $269 system replaced monthly costs far more over a year than a $329 system replaced every four months. The examples below use current LaVivid list prices and the lifespan ranges published for those models. They include systems only.

Longer cycle$987/year

Three $329 Helios units, assuming each lasts four months.

Middle cycle$1,076–$1,614/year

Four to six $269 Mirage units, assuming two to three months each.

Short cycle$3,228/year

Twelve $269 Eros units, assuming roughly one month each.

Annual unit cost = price per system × number of replacements per year

These are planning scenarios, not promises. A system that lasts longer on one wearer may shed, tear or lose appearance sooner on another.

Costs beyond the hair system

Attachment supplies

Tape or liquid adhesive, remover, scalp preparation products and cleaning supplies are recurring expenses. The right products depend on the base and attachment routine, so we do not add a universal supply allowance.

Initial cut-in and styling

Many stock units arrive with extra base material and uncut hair. A stylist may need to resize the base, blend the system into your existing hair and shape the final style. Confirm whether a quoted salon price includes the system, cut-in and attachment.

Professional maintenance

If you do not remove, clean and reinstall the system yourself, recurring appointments can become a major part of the annual cost. Ask the salon how often it expects you to return and what each visit includes.

Customization and delivery

Custom color, density, gray percentage, base size, curl and pre-cut services may change the final price. Shipping, taxes and return restrictions can also make two similarly priced systems cost differently.

How to compare two quotes

Before choosing the lower sticker price, write down the same six numbers for every option:

  1. Final system price after customization.
  2. Expected replacement interval.
  3. Annual cost of attachment and cleaning supplies.
  4. Initial cut-in or fitting charge.
  5. Frequency and cost of professional maintenance.
  6. Shipping, taxes and any non-refundable services.

Frequently asked questions

Is a more expensive hair system always better value?

No. Value depends on lifespan, construction, hair quality, customization and how well the system fits your routine. A delicate, highly realistic base may cost more per month if it needs frequent replacement.

Is online purchasing cheaper than using a salon?

The unit price may be lower online, but you may still need a cut-in, fitting and ongoing maintenance. Compare the complete first-year cost and the level of support—not only the product price.

Should I choose the longest-lasting base?

Not automatically. More durable bases can trade away some lightness, airflow or hairline invisibility. Choose the balance you can maintain comfortably.

Sources and methodology

Prices and specifications were taken from official product pages. We have not physically tested these systems. We show manufacturer lifespan claims only when the product page provides them and keep unverified items out of the annual examples.
