Independent guidance. Multiple brands. Clear tradeoffs.

Editorial policy

Useful, sourced and honest about uncertainty.

These principles guide how we research, write, update and correct content.

Effective September 6, 2026

Our purpose

Our editorial work helps readers compare choices, not pressure them into a purchase. We focus on practical tradeoffs, total ownership considerations and questions worth asking before committing.

Our standards

  • Primary sources first: official product pages, policies and care instructions are our preferred sources.
  • Claims in context: manufacturer estimates are identified as such and are not presented as universal outcomes.
  • Strengths and limits: comparisons include disadvantages and uncertainty, not only selling points.
  • No invented testing: we never describe hands-on experience unless that testing actually occurred and is explained.
  • Inclusive guidance: we focus on relevant fit factors such as scalp tone, hair texture, density, climate and routine rather than classifying people by race.

Reviews and recommendations

Editorial labels are starting points based on available evidence. A system that suits one routine may be a poor fit for another. We do not publish a numerical score unless the inputs and weighting are explained.

Corrections and updates

We correct material errors when they are found. Time-sensitive pages identify when prices or specifications were checked. Substantive changes should be reflected in the page’s updated date.

Commercial conflicts

Affiliate commissions or future sponsorships do not grant a brand editorial approval. Sponsored material, if published, will be clearly identified and separated from independent comparisons.
